About Bev Johnson
Simply put, Bev Johnson is a worshipper. An evangelist and praise and worship singer, she is a lover of God and a passionate vocalist.
Unquestionably gifted in music, Bev Johnson sees music as just a means to an end in getting the Gospel of Jesus Christ out to the world. Bev was born in Dallas, Texas and started singing at the age of 5 in the children’s choir of Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church. Accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 8, she’s been singing traditional and contemporary Gospel music ever since. On February 22, 2015, Beverly Johnson was officially ordained as an Evangelist.
With a musical resume that includes providing background vocals for Dr. Bobby Jones, of BET fame, Beverly Crawford and the late O’landa Draper, and having opened up for other well-known Gospel acts such as Maurette Brown Clark and Lonnie Hunter, Bev is catching the attention of the Gospel music industry. Fans of the genre are sure to flock to Bev with the release of her sophomore release, It’s In You.
The exceptional psalmist has presented praise and worship at numerous churches across Northern Virginia, as well as in her hometown. Her gifting has truly made room for her and she’s been blessed with amazing opportunities. In addition to the popular names that she’s shared the stage with, she has lent her stellar vocals to the soundtrack of the BET movie “He Ain’t Finished with Me Yet”. She has also sung with the Northern Virginia Gospel Music Workshop Choir and has opened up for the Virginia Black History Month Association Formal Dinner featuring keynote speaker, actress Vivica A. Fox.
In 2011, Bev Johnson created a scholarship called the Bev Johnson My Praise, My Worship Music & Arts Scholarship which is presented to a high school senior who shows commendable service and leadership skills in the Northern Virginia community. In late 2012, Bev released her first Christmas single “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas with a Little Love and Jazz” featuring Stellar Award Winner, Gospel Artist, Producer, and Songwriter Minister Isaiah D. Thomas.
But for Bev, it always comes back to worship. Feeling the tug to capture her songs on a CD, in February 2009, Bev recorded her first Gospel CD, My Praise, My Worship, which released in the fall of that year. The Founder and Minister of Music for My Praise, My Worship Music & Arts Ministry, which consists of singing, praise dancing, sign language, and mime, Bev Johnson annually hosts a praise and worship workshop and concert featuring top college Gospel choirs including the Virginia Commonwealth University Black Awakening Gospel Choir, the Virginia State University Gospel Choir, and the Howard University Gospel Choir. The event also showcases dynamic Gospel artists in the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and Maryland.
Bev Johnson is quite clear on her mission. “I know that God has called me to go outside of the walls of the church,” says Bev. “Some feel that they are to stay in their home church to minister and if that’s what God has called them to do, that’s great. But I know that He’s told me that my mission is outside so that I can bring them in.”
